Fishing in Maine’s High Peaks can be rewarding and peaceful. If you’re planning on fly fishing in the Carrabassett River, plan on catching the most fish around late May into late June, and head north past the Visitors Information Center to do so. Sometimes the river can get low in the summer, so you’ll find that most of the deeper pools are up past the airport. Many fishermen also wade into the river in Kingfield at the Rte 16 bridge (take a left at Annie’s headed down from Sugarloaf, or take a right at the bridge headed up from Farmington). A frequent sight in the summer is fly fishing right off the dam! Don’t limit yourself to the rivers! Throw in a line on Flagstaff Lake, or head up to Chain of Ponds to do some fishing. Remember to keep your fishing license on you!
